Quest for the best bench RAM kit – project scrubbed… and an update

August 11th, 2009
by TheGoat Eater

Due to unforeseen personal life problems, I have to scub the project and am now thinking when I do I may try with Elpida BBSE as they seem to be great still and much harder to kill  …  I  have been trying to sort out thing  personally so when I get more time to do a write up I will be benching MSI X-58 Platinum SLI and the  GTX260 OCV3 that I have for testing on hand, as well as a DFI teh8 that I was given and a recently acquired W3540!  I will hopefully be up and running full within a few days (i hope )

Quest for the best bench RAM kit – the start

July 30th, 2009
by TheGoat Eater

So today I finally made good on all my talk of finding a source for oem ELPIDA MNH-E HYPER DDR3 2GB modules… After calling all my contacts at various stores and distributors  I finally scored with a contact I made today.  I am able to get a large amount of 2GB modules for my binning project, which will start next week .  So my quest now will be to get at least 12 modules and bin the  hell out of them and see how well they will do.  I will be updating with my results as  think people will be interested hopefully in this project.   I hope to get out of this a set of 1075MHZ Cas 7 triple channel  at least – we will see…

Show notes
After a slew of mega-length episodes, we slim down a bit this week with a shorter, more tightly packed podcast presentation. To kick things off, fantasy football season is starting, and we finally have a presence in the Twitter-verse. We go on to discuss how we use the social media service as yet another tool to stay on top of the PC hardware industry.

Moving into the meat of the episode, we bring you not one, but two sneak previews of articles you can expect to see this week. Scott and Geoff share their thoughts on both Intel’s new SSDs and a pair of 11.6″ netbooks. Also on the agenda: can gamers invest in future titles? And what will happen to DVDs and Blu-Ray with the rise of portable flash media? Finally, don’t miss our interview with pro-overclocker and Xtreme Systems owner Charles “Fugger” Wirth.

Send in listener mail, and we’ll answer on the podcast. – jdrake@techreport.com

by TheGoat Eater

I love this video as it has some killer music and I used to play it again and again just to listen to it… the LN2 OCing isn’t bad either! Thanks to BenchZowner for one of my favorite videos on Youtube and ultimately getting me into trance music and the like as it is great for benching (no doubt).

MOA Official Phase 1 US results

Results from MOA Phase 1 USA

Results from MOA Phase 1 USA

So – Due to extenuating circumstances and the length of time I had to prepare for Phase 1 I was unable to secure a Retail i7 in time and am confident that if I had at least a 920 D0 I could have slipped into the top ten even on air, oh well… I look forward to the next opportunity that MSI will have for me to prove myself.
